Mission Statement
The mission of the Burke County Emergency Communications Center (BCECC) is to serve the community and local government agencies with effective emergency communications services. We will serve as a facilitator of communications for public safety agencies in Burke County. Burke Emergency Communications Center will maintain a high standard of quality service to the citizens of Burke County.

- In 911 OPERATOR, you take on the role of an emergency dispatcher, who has to rapidly deal with the incoming reports. Your task is not just to pick up the calls, but also to react appropriately to the situation – sometimes giving first aid instructions is enough, at other times a police, fire department or paramedics’ intervention is a necessity.
- Call Takers, Police Dispatchers and Fire & EMS Dispatchers. Depending on the jurisdiction, 911 operator jobs may be found in centralized dispatching centers, where all emergency calls are received and routedan through a single enhanced 911 system. 911 dispatcher jobs are also found in individual police or fire/EMS dispatch centers in jurisdictions without a centralized system.

Travel information is currently disseminated to the public using venues such as Highway Advisory Radio, Dynamic Message Signs, and on other NCDOT services. The North Carolina 511 system is part of a nationwide effort to disseminate travel information to the public via another venue, the telephone. 511 in North Carolina was implemented in the summer of 2004.
